Go Ecuador!
It´s been rainy and cold for three days straight, but I don´t mind at all. Today was my third day of Spanish class, and I am slowly but surely starting to catch on. My head is a scramble of new vocabulary, and I keep accidentally sliding into Italian, but I am loving it. Every day after class (which is from 8:30 to 12:30), I stroll home to share the main meal of the day, almuerzo, with mia familia en la casa. Today we had steaming soup with fresh Ecuadorian vegatables, cerveche, popcorn (to be eaten with the cerveche), rice, and a delicious home-made fruit juice. Yesterday afternoon, I had my first salsa dancing lesson. Such fun! And I didn´t even have to stare at my feet the whole time! I met two British guys from my Spanish school there-- they´re both quite friendly, though a bit snobby! Haha. Last night I discovered that my family has a (duh, duh, duh, duuuuh) guitarra!! It felt SO GOOD to have an instrument in my hands again and to be able to belt out some tunes. I swear, playing music is like a drug for me. As soon as I started strumming I just felt all my anxiety and stress flying out of my body. It had been too long! I am hoping to learn som Ecuadorian songs while I am here. Today Ecuador plays Chile in football-- it´s there last hope to make it to the world cup! I´m planning on meeting up with some folks from the school en la mariscal (the hip neighborhood in town) to watch the game and enjoy some cervezas. Should be fun. Go Ecuador!
